The Team

The Department of Planning comprises regular faculty (Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors) and Visiting Faculty (practicing professionals and faculty from other educational institutes) contributing to various planning courses and subjects each semester. Core faculty members provide critical inputs in Urban and Regional Planning, Architecture, Environmental Planning, Infrastructure Planning, Sociology, Civil Engineering, etc. Industry experts, researchers, and government officials also interact with students, helping analyze urban planning and development problems.

Pedagogy & Outreach

The predominant pedagogical approach of SPAV is "learning by doing". Accordingly, the three planning programs offer theory subjects, studio subjects, and lab-based subjects. Each semester has approximately 17-18 weeks of teaching, with 35 periods per week. Planning Design Studio occupies a significant portion, supplemented by theory courses. Progressive internal assessments and semester-end examinations ensure comprehensive evaluation.

Projects

The Department of Planning undertakes academic, consultancy, and advocacy projects nationwide. Each semester, planning and design studios collaborate with municipalities and regional development authorities, culminating in real-life projects like City or Zonal Development Plans, Mobility Plans, and Environmental Management Plans. Institutional consultancy projects address client-specific planning needs. The Department also advises Government of Andhra Pradesh and Government of India on development proposals and monitoring.
